A saying that no doubt you've heard a good deal in operation, in sports, and human performance in general is managing the controllable. What does that actually mean? I wanted to consider this concept of governing the controllable, which can be actually really good advice mind you, and take it out of the arena of as a cliché and in the an entire world of something that we are able to actually do.
In our workshops we'll use something known as the CIA Model to aid students gain idea of this concept and reduce stress in their own personal lives. It's pretty clear to see this model so here's the short form.
CIA represents Control Influence Accept. All in the circumstances and situations we find inside ourselves will fall into one of these three categories. I am going to discuss them in reverse order.
There is definitely an enormous quantity of things within our world that people simply need to accept. Weather, traffic patterns, scores and connection between games that individuals're not actually playing in. One with the best things that we can do for the own reassurance is the fact that when there's a thing that we have to accept, is basically just to accept it not waste any injury looking to change it.
The second category are things that individuals influence. The two big items that belong to this are the immediate environment, your vehicle, your workplace, your property, and folks that you simply handle. Listen, and we don't have total control over our youngsters, our colleagues, etc, but we all do have influence over them, and something of the best things that you can do for your growth is always that in circumstances in which you have influence to really exercise that influence will dramatically supercharge your self-esteem.
Now we here visit the category of things we can easily control. We're here to share with you manipulating the controllable. Well, you know what, folks? I've found there's really only 1 thing among the list of things that people can control. It's your decisions.
That's right, your decisions about your lifetime are the only thing we already have direct control over. When you realize this, it becomes form of confronting and sort of liberating all at the same time. What do you do with this information, how the only thing that I have total control over are the decisions that I make?
Stop looking to control items that you've got no treatments for. Amazing in my experience the amount energy people waste wanting to control stuff that they maybe have influence over, but in many cases should just accept. I'll also say that when it comes to items that you have zero influence over, I wouldn't spend long talking or complaining about them. It's just a drain on your energy. Are you catching yourself looking to control items that you should just accept? Notice that, and I would change your mind on that.
When you realize that this only thing you have total control over is your decisions, assume responsibilty to the decision-making process. I'm not saying to blame yourself when things prove poorly. I am saying it takes responsibility to the decision which you make. That's when you begin manipulating the controllables and seeing the results that you really are interested in.
I don't play a whole lot of poker, but one thing that I be familiar with is the fact that winning at cards, specifically poker, carries a small amount regarding them that you simply are dealt, and it carries a huge amount regarding the way you make decisions and play them that you simply're dealt. Same thing costs your life. Life truly is ten percent what are the results to us and 90 percent the method that you react.
I hope which you have enjoyed researching managing the controllables.
